Reduce Barriers within Government Regulatory Structures
SAHF regularly engages with policymakers on energy and water efficiency issues relevant to multifamily affordable housing. Our primary emphasis is on working with the Department of Housing and Urban Development to help promote energy and water efficiency in the assisted portfolio.
SAHF engages with HUD on issues such as the utility allowance policy as well as incentives to multifamily partners in the Better Buildings Challenge.
On the legislative front, SAHF was one of the primary advocates, along with Enterprise Community Partners and the Low Income Investment Fund, for the messaging that authorized a Pay for Success demonstration within HUD. Thanks to this collaborative effort, the Surface Transportation Reauthorization and Reform Act was passed in December 2015.
SAHF also engages with other federal agencies such as the Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency as well as state agencies such as Housing Finance Agencies on issues relevant to multifamily housing.
