This dynamic position allows for significant independence, creativity, and leadership potential and the opportunity to participate in conversations and initiatives with policy-makers, federal agency officials, and leaders of mission oriented enterprises in the field of affordable housing. Roles and Responsibilities: The Program and Policy Associate works with SAHF’s Executive Vice President for Policy and Operations, its President, and the President of SAHF’s energy division on the group’s policy agenda and member programs.
• Works with SAHF’s leadership and members to formulate, advocate for, and implement practice-based improvements in affordable housing policy at the national level;
• Researches and drafts policy and position papers and develops educational and advocacy materials;
• Convenes and facilitates SAHF’s peer working groups on real estate development, asset management, resident services, and other topics;
• Analyzes and summarizes affordable housing policies, policy proposals, academic research, and other resource materials for SAHF members, practitioners, and other audiences;
• Collects and analyzes data from HUD, the member organizations, and other sources, and prepares graphic presentations of the findings;
• Represents SAHF at housing policy meetings and conferences and in meetings with government officials;
• Produces content and design for written and web-based materials on SAHF initiatives and member activities for fact sheets and the SAHF website;>
• Assists in the preparation of grant applications and reports;
• Coordinates content and logistics of SAHF meetings and events.
An innovator and collaborator with excellent writing, analytic, and presentation skills. Affordable housing expertise, at least three years of relevant prior work experience, and a master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field are required. Understanding of real estate finance, affordable housing programs, the legislative process, web design, GIS, or housing research are desirable.
